After graduating from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts at Antwerp, Martin Margiela worked as a freelance fashion stylist in Belgium since 1985. Then, in moved to Paris and went to work for Jean Paul Gaultier through 1987 before venturing out on his own. He launched a knitwear line manufactured by Miss Deanna Spa, Italy in 1992. Most noted for his unconventional, undeniably strange, deconstructed fashion in a wide range of fabrics including salvaged flea market finds. Despite his destroyed and dismantled approach to the traditions of fashion, he is unmistably and expert tailor and his designs sincerly reflect his genius for his craft.
